Week 37. Your baby weighs about 2.9kg and is essentially fully developed.
Your Body at Week 37
- Baby is running out of room. Movements feel like rolls and pushes rather than kicks.
- You may lose your mucus plug. This is a normal sign that your body is preparing. It does not mean labor is imminent — it could still be days or weeks.
- Nesting instinct may be strong. Channel it into birth preparation tasks.
- Pelvic pressure continues to increase.
Birth Prep at Week 37
Everything should be ready. Hospital bag packed, birth plan shared, car seat installed, partner briefed.
Know when to call your provider. Regular contractions (every 5 minutes for an hour), water breaking, bleeding, or decreased fetal movement are all reasons to call immediately.
Rest and recharge. The next few weeks are unpredictable. Sleep when you can. Eat well. Stay hydrated. Keep doing your perineal massage — every session counts.
Perineal Massage at Week 37
If you started at week 34, you have been doing perineal massage for 3 weeks now. The tissue is more familiar with the stretching sensation, and your confidence with the technique has grown.
This week:
- If your pregnancy is normal, continue. 3-4 times per week, 5-7 minutes. Be consistent.
- The stretch should feel deep but comfortable. You should be able to breathe through it calmly. If you can, you are doing it right.
- Combine with breathing. Practice the slow exhale during each stretch. This is the same breathing pattern that helps during labor.
Still struggling to reach? The Perimom perineal massage wand with its belly-bypass curve was designed specifically for this stage, when your bump is at its biggest and your arms cannot quite get there.
Just Starting Now?
If you are reading this at week 37 and have not started perineal massage yet, you can start if your pregnancy is normal and your healthcare provider approved. Even 2-3 weeks of consistent practice may be worthwhile. Every session can help your body become more familiar with the stretching sensation. Grab your oil, find 5 minutes, and start. Read how to do perineal massage for step-by-step instructions.
Always consult with your healthcare provider before starting something new!
Looking Ahead
Next week — Week 38 — you are full term. Labor could start any day. How exciting is that!
